the battle of cowpens
Before
The Patriots were used to the attacks by the time this battle started, so they were always prepared for a fight to break out. The British Army was convinced that they were clever in the way they attacked, but didn't realize the Patriots were ready until it was too late. Britain had walked in too confidently, causing the Patriots to have a huge advantage over them. The British had marched in the night before, beingas secretive as they could. They camped out there until the morning, waiting for the right chance to attack.
during
The Battle of Cowpens was started by the British soldiers in an effort to catch the Patriots off guard. Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton had ordered the British troops to attack for two rounds of shots, and then to retreat from the front line. General Daniel Morgan, the Patriot's general for this battle, returned a very large group of shots back at Britain. The British soldiers were not expecting any shots returned, so they hadn't prepared for a full battle. Tarleton escaped from the shootings, but the majority of his soldiers were killed. This battle ended with 800 British troops killed, and only 100 injuries from the American's side. This battle represented many things for the Patriots, especially since it was one of the most victorious wins of the whole Revolutionary War.
after
The victory of this battle gave the Patriots a boost of confidence against the British. They had finally fully defeated the British without being outnumbered in deaths. The Americans immediatly started planning the next battle, taking in consideration the different ways that the British could attack them. This victorious win lead many colonists to believe that freedom can be achieved, but only if people believed in themselves and believed in their army as a whole.
