The battle of Yorktown
before
The Patriots were confident. They marched into Yorktown quietly, getting in position for attack. They were making the first move this time. They were going to show the British what they're up against. The French stayed in the water, waiting for a British naval to appear. They were set, and now they just had to wait out for the night, watching for the perfect moment.
During
George Washington and his troops were in position, ready to attack at any moment. Then news of a group of 34 French West Indies ships came into Virginia, causing Washington to abandon his plans and have his troops kill every British soldier around Chesepeake Bay. A British fleet then came in to the Virginia Capes, meeting the French ships. These ships fought out in one of the greatest but least known naval battles in history. This lasted about 2 and half hours, and then finally Cornwallis retreated back to New York. While this was happening, another group of French troops combined with the Patriots, and carried the French Army's equiptment and guns out ot the water to hel the others defeat the British. Britain didnt have any type of artillery that could compare to the French's, so they were at unmatched war. After 3 days, Cornwallis gave up and surrendered to the Patriots and French. While the British stacked their weapons, their band shamefully played "The World Turned Upside Down". The last cry was from Prime Minister Lord North. "Oh God, it is all over!"
After
The Revolutionary War was finally over, giving freedom to the colonists. The British signed the Treaty of Paris while the colonists and French celebrated. The colonists were as confident as ever, now knowing that they could beat such a strong army. The celebration in America lasted, what it seemed, a lifetime.
